i got 'decoration day' by the drive-by truckers for christmas and i love it

worryingly just noticed that the first song, and one of my faves, is actually about incest and more specifically, fucking one's brother

still an awesome song though!

and on the subject of brothers [though definitely not on the subject of fucking] i need to get my own brother some kind of new year present, since we're staying/partying at his on wednesday

my initial idea, well, my only idea really, was alcohol

but somehow while in town this afternoon i bought some green apples, jalapeno hummus and pita bread, a red belt to match my new shoes, some tights and a new top i may wear wednesday...

none of which are even vaguely a present for danny and clare

so i might go into the nice alcohol shop near westgate, the one with the nice blond guy who flirts with me over white wine, and see what i can find

trouble is, all the nice alcohol gifts were all for christmas and have now disappeared!

also, since they're very foody/drinky people anyway, they might have already got a lot of foody/drinky presents, which means mine has to be particularly good...

saying that, i'm sure a big bottle of gin would suffice!

i don't actually have any idea why i'm making this into such a big deal, i'm just really into cards and gifts for people this year [it upset me greatly to send a slightly less-than-perfect christmas card to james' parents, though apparently it got pride of place on the mantelpiece anyway, probably more for the excitement that their son is finally settling down, or at least doing a damn good impression of some normal person in an almost-a-year long relationship] and i only gave them money, for a clock, at christmas

but anyway

so christmas came and went

it was lovely

missed james horribly

met up with sam and alex though, which was really great

was so surreal seeing her after so many years and still being able to slip straight back into gossip mode; her telling me about her slutty mum and insane sister, me reciprocating with my own tales of sluttiness and insanity...

then she was convinced she'd seen sara [a girl from our form at secondary school, who only managed to stick it out for a couple of months before throwing a series of hissy fits and refusing to go back] sitting at the bar, which brought us nicely round to bitching about everyone we went to school with; who's prenant/married/divorced/fat/anorexic/gay/working a job that is so below her level of intelligence that it's depressing...

anyway, i was trying to subtly lean around the bar to see if it was actually her, which is was, while sam carried on bitching about how she 'looked like she owned he fucking place...' when i suddenly remembered that her dad had in fact bought the restaurant we were in, and the other nice one that does amazing pasta dishes just outside town, meaning she did actually own the fucking place!

it was lovely to meet alex too, they seem really good together

met ste for a quick drink afterwards too, which was good, he said he'd been really missing me and we arranged vaguely for him to come visit some time january/february

really miss him too sometimes

don't miss barrow

really did feel like i was just visiting

and i didn't mind

quite enjoyed it really

all i need now if for someone there to ask me where i'm from...

and i might just say canterbury
